Despite lacklustre ratings in its freshman season, Frances Berwick, President Bravo Media LLC & Style, today announced that a second season of Kathy has been commissioned. It’s certainly a timely announcement to capitalize both on Kathy’s latest Emmy nomination for Kathy Griffin: Tired Hooker as well as the premiere of her latest comedy special Kathy Griffin: Seaman 1st Class, which airs tonight at 10/9c.

In the 1st season of Kathy; the ratings for the first 8 episodes with Kim Zolciak’s Don’t Be Tardy for the Wedding as its lead-in, averaged 770k with 0.80 in the 18-49 demo, but that dropped to 570k and 0.23 demo once that strong lead-in was lost. So, providing that Season 2 episodes air after a comparable show to DBTFTW, then presumably Bravo will be satisfied with that 3/4 of a million viewers. TV success is not only about ratings and we dare say that the commissioning of this 2nd season is a reward for Kathy’s most recent Emmy nomination.

KATHY GRIFFIN WILL KEEP SAYING IT FOR BRAVO AS NETWORK GREENLIGHTS SEASON TWO OF PRIME-TIME TALK SHOW “KATHY”

NEW YORK – July 26, 2012 – Hot off of her recent Emmy nomination for the comedy special, “Kathy Griffin: Tired Hooker,” Bravo Media greenlit a second season of “Kathy,” the weekly prime-time talk show that Jane Fonda deemed “…the weirdest show I’ve ever done in my life,” and had Anderson Cooper asking, “Bitch, what the f– are you doing?” Each episode features Kathy Griffin and a panel of civilians and celebrities commenting on the week’s most talked about moments and no public figure is off limits from Kathy and her crew. Additional celebrity guests from season one included Sharon Osbourne, Chelsea Handler, Whitney Cummings and Jimmy Kimmel. “Look, I don’t know what the hell’s gonna happen in season two of ‘Kathy,’ I’m still sore from season one,” said Griffin. “It’s kind of like “not Martha Stewart” meets “Not at all Ellen” meets a lot of negative energy. Last season I had every one on my couch from Jane Fonda to Chelsea Handler to Anderson Cooper to my dog walker. Just sit back and laugh. I’ll do all the embarrassing stuff….oh, and I’m nominated for an EMMY”

“Bravo’s relationship with Kathy Griffin has outlasted Katie and Tom’s, Ashton and Demi’s and while we won’t be couch jumping, we continue to be in awe of her quick wit, rude humor and spot-on analysis of pop culture and celebrity happenings,” said Frances Berwick, President Bravo Media LLC & Style. “The first season of ‘Kathy’ struck a chord with our educated, upscale viewers with its fresh new approach to not-letting-anyone-get-away with-anything TV.”

Kathy’s all new original one-hour comedy special “Kathy Griffin: Seaman 1st Class” will premiere on Bravo Thursday, July 26th at 10:00 PM ET/PT. This time the comedian aims her razor sharp wit at Miley Cyrus, Bristol Palin, Anderson Cooper, “The Real Housewives of Orange County” and of course Oprah. Kathy chats about her latest antics at The Grammys, dishes on her most recent run in with Cher and what comedy special would be complete without another letter from prison? Griffin has had an impressive 14 original comedy specials on since 2005 and won two Emmy’s for the network’s “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List.” Her stand up specials “Kathy Griffin: Tired Hooker (December 2011), “Kathy Griffin: Straight to Hell” (November 2008) and “Kathy Griffin: She’ll Cut a Bitch” (April 2009) were nominated for an Emmy in the category Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special. Four of her comedy albums have been nominated for Grammy’s and she received rave reviews on Broadway for her one woman show “Kathy Griffin Wants a Tony.” She is the recipient of the ‘GLAAD Vanguard Award,’ received the Trevor Project’s ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ and ‘Ally for Equality Award’ from the Human Rights Campaign.

“Kathy” is produced by Donut Run and Embassy Row for Bravo with Kathy Griffin and Michael Davies serving as executive producers on the series.

First she needs to get rid of that horrible weave, did she get it in the walgreen’s bargain basement at hollywood and vine? Fake face, fake body, fake boyfriend, she’s everything she claimed to hate 20 years ago. Typical hollywood hypocrite. Go live in france or london wherever, we’re tired of your act.

I’ve never liked Kathy. I have never watched her show on Bravo, and i don’t plan on watching it ever.

  3. Bryce says:

They are not rewarding the loyal Bravo viewers but torturing them by giving her a 2nd season, nobody I know liked it. We sure aren’t tuning into it again which means the ratings will be even lower than the horrible numbers from season1. Maybe Bravo enjoys throwing money down the drain, from a TV ratings point of view the decision is as senseless as her show was.

I enjoyed it. The person I live with liked it. There is an audience for Kathy, but too small apparently. I for one will be sorry to see it go.

Looks like I was right, the ratings for season 2 were even lower than season 1! Think of all the great programming they could have developed using the money and timeslot kathy has been hogging for 2 very unsuccessful seasons. Like I said I skipped this season, don’t tell me you were one of the few suckers who watched it, those are hours of your life you’ll never get back! kathy jumped the shark when her politics became more important than her punchlines, she’s not funny anymore, even to most gay men like myself that she supposedly gets. Sarah Palin turned out to be the death of Kathy Griffin, she’s lost it.
