via Press Release – Bravo Media Greenlights 2 New Series & Picks Up Season 2 ‘Don’t Be Tardy’ with Kim Zolciak

Great Camera Deals

Bravo Media’s announcement of two new shows plus a returning one all set in and around Atlanta, Georgia, means that Atlanta joins New York City & Los Angeles as host cities to several Bravo Media produced reality programs.

There was no surprise with confirmation that Kim Zolicak is returning with a second season of her Real Housewives’ spin off “Don’t Be Tardy…“, which in its first season culminated in her wedding to Kroy Biermann and averaged over 1.6m viewers and 0.70 in the 18-49 demo per episode.

More interesting are the two new shows set in Atlanta; Married to Medicine set around women who are doctors or are married to doctors and Taking Atlanta which will be set among the ‘next generation’. Taking Atlanta, still only a working title, seems to be another attempt by Bravo Media to create a hit ensemble show starring the under 30 year old set. This is a very important demographic for them as their previous attempts have largely failed. Most Eligible Dallas, which was planned to be the first in a new franchise “Most Eligible …..“, wasn’t as successful as hoped and Most Eligible New York which was about to begin production was cancelled. Shahs of Sunset, which also features this demographic, is too centered on the former nationality of its stars to be easily replicated in other cities.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta was the first of the Real Housewives franchise to not feature an all Caucasian cast, and it will be interesting to see the ethnic makeup of these two new shows. It will be very important that Married to Medicine shows true ethnic diversity in its cast and doesn’t become the ‘white’ Real DoctorWives of Atlanta, as with Kim Zolciak eventually leaving RHoA, that cast is now an all black one.

The producers of Married to Medicine; FremantleMedia and Purveyors of Pop are still casting both the Atlanta based show as well as when to be set in Miami. If you’re interested details are at their Facebook page.

Before RHoA came along Bravo Media was heavily criticized by its audience for showing no diversity in the cast of the other Real Housewives franchises, and the casting of these new Atlanta shows will provide them with an interesting balancing act in their casting.

No word yet on when any of these shows will debut, although we’d expect the latter part of 2013 for the new series and perhaps a little earlier than that for Don’t Be Tardy…..
