via Press Release – RHoBH is Cable TV’s #1 Program at 9pm in 18-49 Demo (after exclusions)

As we foreshadowed in our ratings post for this week’s episode of RHoBH, Bravo PR have issued a press release heralding Monday night’s ratings, however the twist they gave it, showed the torturous route they took to get there.

Frankly there would have been nothing wrong with a press release just stating that RHoBH’s audience had reached a season high (as they’ve issued twice for RHoM). The 2,352,000 viewers they earned Monday night was higher than any regular episode of the first season and also an audience as large, wasn’t reached until the sixteenth episode of Season 2. Although the season audience high was mentioned in the press release, Bravo decided to highlight the smaller audience number, those aged 18 to 49 years who watched RHoBH which totaled 1,381,000 people. The press release which can be read in full below states: ““The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” delivers record ratings as Bravo Media ranks #1 among cable entertainment networks in the A18-49 demo during the 9pm hour on 11/26/12, according to Nielsen.”

However, in the fine print at the bottom of the release the following exclusions are stipulated. “Source: Nielsen Media Research, LS data. 9pm hour rank: ad-supported cable entertainment networks, excluding sports and sports entertainment, strict daypart.” This is because the cable channel USA Network (also owned by NBCUniversal) aired WWE (presumably categorized as Sports Entertainment, at 9pm and it attracted 1,830,000 viewers aged 18 to 49 years (out of a total audience of 4,126,000).

I think what Bravo PR really wanted to point out is that they managed to beat out VH1 in the 9pm Monday time slot, as the VH1 show T.I. & Tiny: A Family Hustle has consistently been beating Bravo’s programming at the same time and VH1 could have been putting out a similar Press Release each Monday for the last several months if they had wanted.

Next week’s episode of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” airing Monday, December 3rd at 9pm ET/PT, is part two of the ladies’ trip to Ojai. The women have a hard time understanding Lisa’s defense of Brandi using the f-word at the dinner table. Brandi and Taylor exchange angry words as well, but the group lightens up the following day, having fun in a golf cart race, at a mud-filled spa and late at night, in a drunken gymnastics and arm-wrestling contest that is the opposite of ladylike. However, the problems between Brandi and Adrienne have just begun.
