Bravo Ratings For Week Ending Thursday, May 9th 2013

Bravo Media & Nielsen Media Logos - Sweeps November 11 - November 17 2012

Sunday May 5th began without a new episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta which had headlined Sundays since November 2012, and its loss to Bravo Media’s schedule was felt immediately. However, in an attempt to mitigate its loss, Watch What Happens Live Special – Nene One-on-One opened the evening at 8/7c.

Great Camera Deals

In our weekly forecast report we had predicted that around 1.5m viewers would tune in to Nene Leakes with Andy Cohen and with 1,381,000 viewers tuning in at 9pm (demo 0.5) our prediction was off by 8%. More important though, was that that was a 43% reduction in that time-slot from the previous week’s RHoA, Secrets Revealed episode and was the first of four shows that night which all seeing lower ratings.

While Nene didn’t do too badly, she did however, provide the smallest lead-in to date in Married To Medicine’s seven episodes to air so far, and they certainly suffered, falling to their second smallest audience of their freshman season, with just 1,579,000 viewers tuning in at 9pm (demo 0.7). We had reckoned on an audience of 1.6m and were more or less bang on with our prediction. This also probably meant that The Real Housewives of Orange County ascended to become Bravo Media’s #1 rated show for that week, although M2M still currently holds a higher season average.

After more than doubling its prior Tuesday audience when it first aired on a Sunday, last week, The Kandi Factory slipped back below 1m viewers on Sunday, as we expected. The 879,000 viewers who tuned in at 10pm (demo 0.3), was certainly an improvement on its Tuesday ratings but also proof that its initial Sunday bump was short lived.

Sunday at 11pm, saw the two most sensible cast members of Married to Medicine; Drs Jackie Walters and Simon Whitmore, appear on WWHL, and they managed to draw viewers back to Bravo TV as 1,000,000 (demo 0.40) tuned in for them. That was just enough to keep them from being the lowest rated Sunday edition of WWHL this season. Naomi Campbell who was on WWHL on February 17th garnered 992,000 viewers and that remains, by 8,000, the lowest rated Sunday.

At 11:30pm Fashion Queens bounced back off their prior week low and with 870,000 viewers (Demo 0.30), were more or less back to what they opened their freshman season with; their premiere attracted 881,000 on March 17th.

With Married to Medicine losing the lead-in benefit from The Real Housewives of Atlanta and dropping to just 1.58m viewers Sunday, the stage was set for The Real Housewives of Orange County to become the #1 ranked show currently airing on Bravo TV, and in the process give Monday’s premiere of Newlyweds: The First Year, a nice ratings boost.

In its first week at the new time of 9/8c, RHOC managed to attract their highest rated episode of this eight season with 1,961,000 viewers aged two years and over, watching Vicki Gunvalson enjoy a dinner with her on again off again beau Brooks. Also scoring a 1.0 in the 18-49 demo really helped cement their return to the #1 spot.

All of that set up Newlyweds: The First Year and their 90 minute premiere episode held on to just over 50% of their lead-in, with 1,018,000 viewers (Demo 0.50) watching. In the process they managed to out-rate any episode of LA Shrinks the previous holder of the Monday 10pm time-slot.

With Newlyweds running for 90 minutes until 11:30pm, there was no episode of WWHL and Andy Cohen was free to attend Monday’s Met Ball.

With The Kandi Factory having made its permanent move to Sundays Bravo Media was left with just one hour of original programming on Tuesday night; 30 minutes of Don’t be Tardy… and 30 minutes (or was it 30 years?) with 90’s boy band 98 Degrees. Tuesday was the first time Kim Zolciak’s new episodes aired at 10pm instead of 9:30pm, and we wondered if that would have any impact on her ratings.

If it did have any effect, it was positive, as in its new time of 10pm 940,000 (18-49 Demo 0.50) tuned in to watch episode five; an almost 30% increase compared with the week prior. Sadly though, that dropped Tardy’s season average to below 1m viewers; averaging 996,000 viewers (Demo 0.48) a 30% deficit in total audience level and a negative 20% in the 18 to 49 year age group when compared to the same stage of Season 1.

The new episode was buffered either side by Tardy repeats and while the two that aired and 9pm & 9:30pm scored low ratings (324,000 18-49 Demo 0.10 & 405,000; Demo 0.20 respectively), the 10:30pm repeat which followed the 10pm first airing, attracted 698,000 (Demo 0.30) setting up a reasonably decent lead-in for that night’s WWHL and better than The Kandi Factory was ever able to provide when it aired on Tuesdays.

At 11pm, Watch What Happens Live with 98 Degrees‘ stars Nick Lachey, Drew Lachey, Jeff Timmons and Junstin Jeffre was unable to hold onto all of its lead-in as 142,000 viewers switched channels at 11pm. However Andy Cohen & 98 Degrees still attracted viewership of 556,000 people aged 2 years and over of which 339,000 were aged between 18 and 49 years (demo 0.30).

Wednesday saw the final remnants of Bravo Media’s Wednesday experiment titled ‘Fashion By Bravo’, which had run since early March as well as the return of Million Dollar Listing New York back for a second season.

The night began at 8pm with a repeat of Monday’s season high of The Real Housewives of Orange County which garnered 445,000 viewers and 0.20 in the 18-49 demo. That wasn’t great but it was just a repeat and firmly puts the ratings for the two episodes of Dukes that followed, in perspective. At 9pm the penultimate episode of Dukes of Melrose aired and was followed by the finale at 9:30. The 9pm episode pulled just 347,000 viewers (164,000 aged 18-49 – Demo 0.10) with the 9.30pm episode gaining slightly; 409,000 viewers (218,000 aged 18-49 – Demo 0.20) but both were lower that RHOC’s repeat. At the conclusion of their twelve episode long season, Dukes of Melrose averaged less than 500,000 per episode coming in at 495,167 viewers (263,917 aged 18-49 – Demo 0.19). One look at the ratings of 2012’s series that weren’t renewed shows that it is safe to assume that The Dukes won’t be getting a second season.

Wednesday at 10pm, two of Season One’s cast; Fredrik Eklund and Ryan Serhant were joined by newbie Luis D Ortiz as the reality realtors returned for Million Dollar Listing New York. Their freshman season premiere last March, which featured Michael Lorber who didn’t return for this season, was that season’s lowest rated with 747,000 viewers, and Bravo Media would have been hoping that Wednesday’s Season Two premiere would exceed that.

In the end it did and it didn’t. While MDLNY’s total audience was up 7% over S01E01 with 799,000 viewers in total, the number of 18 to 49 year old viewers totaled 428,000 – down 25,000 (or down 6%) from the 453,000, who viewed the freshman premiere.

We’ve still not received that night’s ratings for Watch What Happens Live with Alyson Hannigan and Zachary Quinto.

Last Thursday saw the half way stage for Tabatha Coffey’s fifth season of Tabatha Takes Over, and for the second week running Tabatha’s show rated better than the Married to Medicine lead-in preview, that was scheduled to provide a ratings boost for the 10pm hour. The previous week Married to Medicine’s preview attracted 732,000 (0.40) but on Thursday May 9th could only muster 633,000 (demo 0.20), and this decline seems to be in sync with the ratings reductions it is also seeing on Sundays.

However while Tabatha is beating her M2M lead-in, that’s about her only positive. With just 787,000 viewers tuning in this week (423,000 aged 18-49 – Demo 0.30) her season-to-date deficit with Season 4 is growing larger. Season Four’s Episode S04E06 which aired on a Tuesday and followed a first airing of an episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County attracted 1,056,000 people 2 years & over (646,000 aged 18-49 – Demo 0.50) which means this corresponding episode’s audience was 25% smaller overall and 35% smaller in thew coveted 18-49 viewers.

At the half way stage Tabatha Takes Over is averaging 820,333 viewers (468,833 18-49 – Demo 0.38) and her season-on-season ratings declines are now showing deficits of 17.5% & 21.64% respectively.

At 11pm, Natalie Maines and Carrie Anna Inaba were the guests on WWHL, and as for Wednesday we are still waiting to receive their ratings.
