Sunday saw the third time this month that Bravo Media have aired an episode of The Real Housewives of Melbourne at 12pm and if this week’s ratings are any guide then it would appear that the US fans love affair with the Wives from Down Under is over. Despite airing out of prime time, in its first two weeks The Real Housewives of Melbourne had managed to avoid being Bravo Media’s lowest rated show of the week with both Game of Crowns and The Singles Project attracting fewer viewers in the P8-49 demo. This Sunday however, Game of Crowns managed to exceed RHoMelbourne’s P18-49 viewer total.

The Noon airing of the fourth episode saw just 334,000 viewers tune in this week dropping over 20% of last week’s 418,000 audience. The more important P18-49 demographic fell by a larger percentage – down -23.57% on the week but with 201,000 just managed to stay above 200k. While generally these numbers are low when compared to prime time, for this time slot they beating the same four hours on Sundays in July 2014 RHoMelbourne having brought in 17.37% more P2+ viewers and 19.19% more P18-49 viewers than that midday Sunday slot earned in July.

Full Season Summary

Imaginary telephone conversation between two Real Housewives of Melbourne cast members. Wife 1: “Did you hear Bravo TV are going to air us on Sundays, which is their BEST night of their television week???” Wife 2: “Yes, but they’re tossing us out at Noon and not in prime time. Why?????

Aired in Australia on Arena TV, which is owned by Foxtel, Arena is more or less a Bravo TV clone (both down to the television shows it airs as well as its graphics and its catchphrase “What Watch Happens“). The Real Housewives of Melbourne is the first of the four international Real Housewives version to get an airtime on Bravo TV in the USA. The international versions to date created under licence from Bravo Media are: The Real Housewives of Athens (2011), The Real Housewives of Vancouver (2012), France’s Les Vraies Housewives (2013) and, in 2014, The Real Housewives of Melbourne.

But what a time slot they’ve been given as Noon Sunday’s is not exactly prime time however it’s also not a time when no one is watching Bravo TV either. Taking a sample of the four July Sundays and looking at what aired between Noon & 2pm on those Sundays, each of those 8 hours of television averaged just over 300,000 viewers in total with 178,000 of them aged between 18 & 49 years.

The above ratings numbers therefore are the benchmark against which the ratings for #RHoMelbourne can can be judged, but still it’s perplexing that Bravo Media would chose to air it at midday on Sundays and not in any of their open 8pm midweek timeslots, and I can only imagine they felt it would be a drain on the all important prime time audience average.
