Bravo Ratings Tuesday, April 9th – Millionaire Matchmaker Finale and The Kandi Factory Premiere

Tuesday night on Bravo TV was out with the old and in with the new, as they aired a finale and a premiere; the conclusion of the fifth season of Millionaire Matchmaker at 9/8c and at 10/9c, the debut of a full season of The Kandi Factory.

Bravo Media’s parent network, NBC launched their own new dating show last night, ‘Ready For Love‘, with a two hour special from 8pm to 10pm and hosted by Bill Rancic & Giuliana Rancic. With The Kandi Factory being given the 10pm Tuesday time-slot, this meant that Millionaire Matchmaker’s finale was moved to 9pm and therefore put in direct competition with NBC’s copycat. This was the fourth time-slot in which Matchmaker has aired due to Bravo’s constant schedule changes. And that makes it harder for the show’s fans to known when to watch each episode when it first airs. Aware of the impact of all these time changes, Patti Stanger made a plea to her 336,000 Twitter followers for them not to ‘stand her up’, as her show’s fifth season finale aired featuring a marriage proposal from boyfriend, David Krausse. With Kathy Griffin’s talk show Kathy wrapping up last week, Bravo Media premiered returning seasons of The Real Housewives of Orange County – Season 8 and Tabatha Takes Over – Season 5. Unfortunately both opened well down on the previous season’s RHOC with its lowest premiere rating since 2007′s Season Three and Tabatha with her lowest since 2009′s Season Two. Read more

Bravo Media rescheduled Millionaire Matchmaker’s S06E12 episode to air last Thursday at 10pm, and then re-ran the episode this Tuesday in its normal time-slot as a Social Edition, with viewer tweets during the original airing included.

This was part of Bravo’s important push for more real time interactivity via social media during their shows, however, Patti Stanger’s audience tends to tweet a lot less than many of their other shows’ fans. Because of that we’re not sure if this particular experiment worked. In any event, the 986,000 (demo 0.50) who tuned in at 10pm Thursday, March 28th, when added to the additional 754,000 (demo 0.30) from this Tuesday, is still a very healthy audience number when combined.

In fact, just the 3/4 million who watched Tuesday’s repeat is higher than Rachel Zoe’s audience the following night and as we wrote in that article, the ratings for The Rachel Zoe Project are now in cancellation territory.

Without any doubt the Big Bravo story of the week was the highly successful debut of Married To Medicine, which became the highest rated premiere for any Bravo TV show (excluding spin-offs). We had predicted that for its premiere it would retain between 60% & 70% of the strong lead-in provided by The Real Housewives of Atlanta and it was towards the top end of that, holding on to 67.5% of it. With an opening audience of 1,892,000 (1,196,000 aged 18 to 49 years – Demo 0.9), it beat out the Season 1 premier of The Real Housewives of New Jersey which debuted to 1,720,000 in May 2009, but not Bethenny Frankel’s spin-off. Frankel’s solo show grew out of the third season of The Real Housewives of New York; and in its first season was called Bethenny’s Getting Married?, which attracted an audience of 2,096,000 (1,350,000 aged 18-49, Demo 1.0) in June 2010. Although Bravo Media tout themselves as offering five nights of original programming, Thursday nights have for a long time been their weakest night; both for the number of hours of original programming aired as well as their ratings. Yesterday, in what may turn out to be an astute programming move, next Tuesday’s episode of Millionaire Matchmaker was aired at 10pm, and gave a great boost to the two programs that followed.

With Patti Stanger’s Matchmaker added to the schedule and drawing 986,000 viewers at 10pm, that propelled Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live to his best Thursday ratings in a long time and it was up almost 17% versus the previous Thursday. In fact, the 664,000 that tuned into to watch Caroline Manzo and Bobby Moyhnihan was even higher than the number who tuned into to see Kathy Griffin when she was on Tuesday night (also following an episode of Matchmaker).
