As I write it’s April Fools Day, but it is also Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Sixty-Eight days and that’s no joke, since the very first episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County aired. On March 21st, 2006 at 10pm, 430,000 people tuned into Bravo TV for the very first episode of the very first franchise and began to get to know Vicki Gunvalson, Kimberly Bryant, Jo de la Rosa, Lauri Waring, Jeana Keough and of course Slade Smiley.

Since then a further 433 episodes of the various iterations have aired (including last night’s 5th season finale of The Real Housewives of Atlanta), and that’s more than one episode each week, over the last seven years. In total, those 433 hour long episodes, have been viewed by 905,370,000 people aged 2 years and over, and that’s just the audience for the initial airing of each episode in the United States. With the many repeat airings plus the international audience, the number of people who have watched Real Housewives total more than the 1.35b people who live in China. What that says about the world in the 21st Century? Well, I’ll let you draw your own conclusions! ;-) Read more

News & Projections Week June 24 – June 28, 2012 – Bravo Ratings

Two shows with ratings dilemmas

With Sunday’s ratings not being released until tomorrow, Tuesday, on Monday’s we turn our attention to projections for the week ahead. This is a big week for Bravo and its ratings and at Bravo Ratings, we’ll have a better handle on the scheduling fate of two shows sometime late Tuesday afternoon. ‘Miss Advised‘ debuted last week to lackluster reviews and ratings, and with ‘RHoNY‘ falling again last week to be down 22% after three episodes when compared with the same stage in both Season 3 & Season 4, Monday’s ratings might well determine if that night’s schedule is shaken up in the coming weeks. Last week only two out of five episodes of Andy Cohen’s talkie scored in the nightly Top 100 Cable ratings; Sunday with Teresa Giudice and Tuesday with Gretchen Rossi, which meant that Monday’s episode with Ramona Singer didn’t score. This is largely due to the fact that not enough people who watched ‘Miss Advised’ at 10pm stayed around to see Ramona, and that ‘RHoNY’ fans failed to switch back at 11pm.

‘Real Housewives Top 20 Reunion Moments’ & ‘Kathy’ for Thursday June 21st, 2012 – Bravo Ratings

Last night Bravo dug deep in its now enormous ‘Real Housewives‘ archive and pulled out what it believed were the Top 20 highlights of the various reunions. Aired in the time slot that Kim Zolciak’s ‘Don’t Be Tardy for the Wedding‘ had occupied for the past 8 weeks it was particularly important to Kathy Griffin that her not rating well talk show, ‘Kathy‘ was given a reasonable lead-in. In the 9/8c time slot the Real Housewives Top 20 Reunion Moments scored a respectable rating of 944,000 with 0.40 in the demo. Not too bad for a mash-up of clips from the archive and basically a free hour’s of TV from a production standpoint. It wasn’t ‘Tardy’ territory ratings wise, but still better than the 9/8c slot Wednesday night when ‘Million Dollar Listing‘ aired.

Anderson Cooper, who recently hosted a party at his home for Andy Cohen’s ‘Most Talkative’ book launch, agreed to appear on ‘Kathy‘ last night. ‘Kathy’ is produced by the Sony Television subsidiary, Embassy Row, that also produces Andy’s show ‘WWHL‘.
