Presidential & Vice Presidential debates can have quite a striking impact on Cable TV’s ratings and seemingly on Bravo’s in particular. When Barack Obama and Mitt Romney first took the stage their debate coincided with the debut episode of ‘Life After Top Chef’. Of the three episodes that have aired, the highest rated LATC episode was the one scheduled against the Presidential contenders. When the Veep debate took place, the downward spiral of RHoM was temporarily halted as its audience grew when compared with its prior week. Presumably this increase in ratings for Bravo occurs as the competing offerings on other networks is diminished, as over 10 channels including ABC, CBS, & NBC are all airing the same programming. As ratings information comes in we’ll keep updating this post.

Last night fired former Real Housewife of New York City was given an unprecedented platform that rightly or wrongly has made today’s Bravo story all about Jill and not the three new or three veteran RHoNY Cast members. If you’re a Jill fan you’ll love that, and if you’re a Jill foe, then you would be right to question what exactly was Bravo’s reason to provide this opportunity to her.

Here are the raw numbers and we’ll be adding analysis shortly. Read more

Last night the Real Housewives of New York City entered uncharted territory as, with a 19th episode airing, its fifth season became its longest. The first tranche of the RHoNY Reunion only managed to attract an audience of 1,700,000 (and a 0.80 in the 18-49 demo). Sadly, in overall viewers that’s less than the 2nd reunion episode from last season that Andy Cohen said caused the major recasting this season. What’s more, is that that viewer total is lower than even Season One’s reunion way back in 2008.

For the last 16 weeks Miss Advised and then Gallery Girls took the 10pm time slot after RHoNY, and as for RHoNY’s first two Season 5 episodes, this week RHoNY repeated with the repeat airing scoring an additional 1,012,000 viewers (18-49 demo 0.4). While this boosts the cumulative RHoNY audience, it also diluted the 9pm first airing’s ratings which might give Bravo PR some leeway to explain away the ratings decline. Read more

Considering that RHoNJ dropped 20% this Sunday from its previous showing, RHoNY did surprisingly well all things considered and only dropped 5.2% against its fourth episode . The fifth episode of the 5th season of RHoNY did score a new season low at 1,386,000 but more worryingly dropped to just 0.40 in the 18-49 demo. In our weekly projections we’d suggested a range of 1.2-1.4m and so it came in at just below our upper estimate. Read more

Last night Bravo dug deep in its now enormous ‘Real Housewives‘ archive and pulled out what it believed were the Top 20 highlights of the various reunions. Aired in the time slot that Kim Zolciak’s ‘Don’t Be Tardy for the Wedding‘ had occupied for the past 8 weeks it was particularly important to Kathy Griffin that her not rating well talk show, ‘Kathy‘ was given a reasonable lead-in. In the 9/8c time slot the Real Housewives Top 20 Reunion Moments scored a respectable rating of 944,000 with 0.40 in the demo. Not too bad for a mash-up of clips from the archive and basically a free hour’s of TV from a production standpoint. It wasn’t ‘Tardy’ territory ratings wise, but still better than the 9/8c slot Wednesday night when ‘Million Dollar Listing‘ aired.

Anderson Cooper, who recently hosted a party at his home for Andy Cohen’s ‘Most Talkative’ book launch, agreed to appear on ‘Kathy‘ last night. ‘Kathy’ is produced by the Sony Television subsidiary, Embassy Row, that also produces Andy’s show ‘WWHL‘.
