BRAVO MEDIA AIRS TWO-PART RHoM REUNION BEGINNING TONIGHT AT 10pm

The Real Housewives of Miami

With today’s press release (printed in full below) that Part 2 of The Real Housewives of Miami reunion will be pushed out this Thursday November 14th at 9pm, rather than next Monday November 18th at 10pm, as originally scheduled, Bravo Media are publicly admitting that this franchise member has failed. Evidently Bravo TV are assuming that a repeat airing of S04E03 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills next Monday at 10pm, instead of the originally scheduled RHoM Reunion Part 2, will gain more viewers.

Weddings By Bravo – A Ratings History (Updated 07-Jan-2014)

WeddingsByBravo-New-Format

Updated January 7th, 2014

The finale of Thicker Than Water which featured the wedding of Benji Tankard AKA DJ Richie Rich and Shanira Hudson has taken fifth place in the below table. Benji & Shanira’s nuptials, with 2,286,000 viewers at 10pm Sunday January 5th drew more viewers than the remarriage of Nene Leakes & Gregg Leakes which aired as the finale of I Dream of Nene: The Wedding and bump Nene’s nuptial’s ratings down to sixth place.

Updated November 5th, 2013

Hopefully this will be the last update this article will see for awhile as after 5 weddings in six weeks on Bravo TV it’s all getting a little much. Last night saw Joanna Krupa’s wedding featured on the third season finale of The Real Housewives of Miami and while she placed higher in the table below than her co-cast member Adriana de Moura whose marriage was also featured this season, the #1 Miami wedding still remains the short lived nuptials of Marysol Patton that aired in Season 1. Given the parlous state of RHoM’s ratings it’s probably safe to assume that Marysol will retain that title in perpetuity, as I’m pretty confident that not only won’t there be another wedding aired on RHoM but that there also won’t be anymore RHoM episodes for them to air.

Nene Leakes’ 63.7% week on week audience gain boosted by both her wedding finale & a Sunday night air time, propelled her to 5th place on the Weddings By Bravo ratings table and pushed Bethenny Frankel back to sixth. For Real Housewives wedding spin-offs Kim Zolciak remains in first place (and third overall), but Cynthia Bailey whose wedding attracted 4.4m viewers, remains the Queen of the Bravo Brides.

Updated October 27th, 2013

Tonight Nene Leakes remarries her husband Gregg, after using the most the tried and tested Real Housewives spin-off route; a wedding! See Bethenny Frankel, Kim Zolciak & Tamra Barney. Unfortunately for Ms Leakes, it would seem that Bravo TV viewers are getting sick of being treated like public bus passengers; as all of a sudden there has been a surfeit of Weddings By Bravo in the last 60 days, after there being none for sometime.

Tamra Barney’s wedding aired September 16th, 2013, Kristi & Matt were married by Andy Cohen on WWHL October 10th, 2013, Adriana de Moura’s renewal/wedding/whatever aired on The Real Housewives of Miami October 14th, Tonight is Nene’s, and there’s still Johana Kruppa’s wedding to air also on RHoM, on or around November 11th, 2013.

Once upon a time a Bravolebrities wedding being televised on Bravo TV could be ratings gold. As you can see in the below table: Cynthia Bailey’s nuptials attracted 4,381,000 viewers in January 2011. Both the aforementioned Frankel & Zolciak comfortably exceeded 2m viewers for theirs in 2010 & 2012 respectively. Even Laurie Waring’s marriage to George Peterson in 2008 on Season Three of The Real Housewives of Orange County garnered 2,018,000 viewers.

Sadly, Bravo Media have been caught by the trap that befalls many TV networks and that is overuse & overkill. Remember 10 years ago when Regis Philbin aired who Wants to be a Millionaire once each week, and realizing they had a huge hit on their hands moved it to run 5 nights a week, only to saturate the audience and rapidly turn them off?

That’s what Bravo Media are doing for the stars’ wedding businesses (and lets face it, this cynical remarriage by Nene Leakes is nothing but a business decision). I estimate that tonight Nene Leakes’s nuptials will garner at best 1.8m viewers and seventh place on the below table, good ratings, yes but way less than Nene Leakes would have wished for and particularly given her wedding’s ratings will fall significantly short of those achieved by former RHoA co-star Kim Zolciak, Nene, in addition to a being a self-described Rich Bitch will also end up no doubt, being quite the Sour Puss too.

Update – October, 11th, 2013

On Thursday, October 10th, Watch What Happens Live got in on the Weddings by Bravo act but in the process recorded the least watch wedding ever on Bravo TV, and then on October 14th Adriana de Moura was wed on The Real Housewives of Miami

Updated to include ratings for Tamra’s OC Wedding

Original Article – Published September, 16th, 2013

There’s nothing like a wedding for ratings, or at least that is what Bravo Media must believe, given that four of the six Real Housewives spin-offs have or will involve cast member weddings. Going back as far as 2006, the highest ever rated hour of the franchise was Cynthia Bailey’s nuptials, which aired in January 2011 in the third season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Read more

The Real Housewives of Miami – Season 3 Ratings

The Real Housewives of Miami

Updated Friday November 15th 2013, after S03E16 Reunion Part 2 aired at 9pm on Thursday November 14th 2013.

What has recently been Bravo Media’s spare night; Thursday, was turned over to The Real Housewives of Miami last night, with a repeat airing of the Season 3 Reunion Part 1 at 8pm, the first airing of Reunion Part 2 at 9pm and then a repeat of Part 2, again at 10pm. It was only this Monday that Bravo TV decided to air both parts this week and we’ll know next week whether airing a repeat of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills next Monday at 10pm, rather than RHoM Part 2 as originally planned pays off.

At 9pm, 1,009,000 viewers tuned in for what might become the final new episode of RHoM to air, and of those 1m viewers; 561,000 were aged 18 to 49 years (Demo 0.40) and that was down -6.05% from Monday’s Part 1. However with this episode being repeated immediately afterward at 10pm (watched by an additional 547,000 viewers; 303,000 18-49 – Demo 0.20), giving viewers a choice of viewing times, it’s possible that just a single 9pm airing may have been a tad higher.

However for this season of RHoM to pull its viewership average above last season’s, it needed an audience of over 1.92m for last night’s reunion, and as you can see even over two hours combined it fell well short of that.

This season closes as the lowest rated season of any Real Housewives Franchise since the very first season of The Real Housewives of Orange County, and with ratings like that, it’s unlikely to be back for a fourth season. (see the entire season’s ratings table below)

Update November 30As Do The Parents – So Do The Ratings

After taking a week’s break over Thanksgiving, RHoM returned last Thursday for its 12th episode titled ‘Parent’s Fly South’ and so did the ratings as RHoM’s ratings dropped to their lowest level since it received its Sunday reboot on October 28th. On November 29th 1,023,000 viewers tuned in scoring another 0.50 on the 18-49 demo, but that’s a drop of -9.63% versus the previous episode, which aired on November 15th. Season to date RHoM shows declines versus its freshman season of -9.00% in total audience and -19.44% in the 18-49 demo. With the Reunion being filmed last Friday, November 30th, we’re gathering there are just two regular episodes left and that the Reunion will air on December 20th (although we’ve since been informed that there are 3 regular episodes left plus the Reunion). Bravo’s Third Week of Sweeps Isn’t Much Better Than Their Second – Year-on-Year Down 18% & 18-49 Down 25%

Bravo Media & Nielsen Media Logos - Sweeps November 11 - November 17 2012

As we wrote last week, Bravo Media held back all of their big guns for the second week of Nielsen’s Fall Sweeps and apart from The Real of Housewives of Atlanta’s season five premiere getting off to a record start, the rest of that week was best swept away. So, how did the third week go?

Unfortunately, not only wasn’t it any better but when compared like-for-like with the programming for the same week in 2011, total audience levels declined by 18%. In the equivalent week in 2011 Bravo TV aired a total of 8 hours of original programming over four nights, versus last week’s 12 hours over five nights. The additions being; five versus two episodes of Watch What Happens Live, this year two episodes of The Real Housewives of Miami aired, whereas in 2011 no original programming was aired on Thursday, November 17th and the last difference is LOLwork added on Wednesday’s, giving that night 3 hours of first run programming.
