The Real Housewives of Miami

With today’s press release (printed in full below) that Part 2 of The Real Housewives of Miami reunion will be pushed out this Thursday November 14th at 9pm, rather than next Monday November 18th at 10pm, as originally scheduled, Bravo Media are publicly admitting that this franchise member has failed. Evidently Bravo TV are assuming that a repeat airing of S04E03 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills next Monday at 10pm, instead of the originally scheduled RHoM Reunion Part 2, will gain more viewers.

The Real Housewives of Miami – Season 3 Ratings

The Real Housewives of Miami

Updated Friday November 15th 2013, after S03E16 Reunion Part 2 aired at 9pm on Thursday November 14th 2013.

What has recently been Bravo Media’s spare night; Thursday, was turned over to The Real Housewives of Miami last night, with a repeat airing of the Season 3 Reunion Part 1 at 8pm, the first airing of Reunion Part 2 at 9pm and then a repeat of Part 2, again at 10pm. It was only this Monday that Bravo TV decided to air both parts this week and we’ll know next week whether airing a repeat of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills next Monday at 10pm, rather than RHoM Part 2 as originally planned pays off.

At 9pm, 1,009,000 viewers tuned in for what might become the final new episode of RHoM to air, and of those 1m viewers; 561,000 were aged 18 to 49 years (Demo 0.40) and that was down -6.05% from Monday’s Part 1. However with this episode being repeated immediately afterward at 10pm (watched by an additional 547,000 viewers; 303,000 18-49 – Demo 0.20), giving viewers a choice of viewing times, it’s possible that just a single 9pm airing may have been a tad higher.

However for this season of RHoM to pull its viewership average above last season’s, it needed an audience of over 1.92m for last night’s reunion, and as you can see even over two hours combined it fell well short of that.

This season closes as the lowest rated season of any Real Housewives Franchise since the very first season of The Real Housewives of Orange County, and with ratings like that, it’s unlikely to be back for a fourth season. (see the entire season’s ratings table below)

With Married to Medicine wrapping up its regular season run with a 2 hour finale on May 19th, Bravo PR issued this press release (printed in full below), correctly heralding the ratings records it attained.

Despite the finale dropping 16.27% below its full season average of 1,804,778 (1,077,056 aged 18-49 – Demo 0.86), that was, as the press release points out a 28% ratings jump on the prior week’s episode. That episode, which aired May 12th, was M2M’s lowest rated of their freshman season.

While the disclaimers somewhat reduce the impact of M2M’s ratings records; Bravo PR’s department explained that M2M became the highest-rated non-franchise/non-spin-off freshman series since “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”, it’s is probably worth pointing out that this was as much due to deft scheduling than the quality of this particular show.

Married to Medicine had the huge advantage of having Bravo TV’s highest rated TV show, The Real Housewives of Atlanta for the first six of its episodes and those six averaged 1,994,500 viewers but that dropped by 28.54% to just 1,425,333 for the three episodes which didn’t.

And that’s proof positive of the tremendous boos that M2M received by dent of its schedule placement. When they come back for their second season, it will be interesting to see if they are again given the post RHoA time slot, or whether in their sophomore they’ll have to stand and survive on their own.
